A monkey is caught alive -- for a pet, performing animal act or zoo, presumably -- in footage dating from 1912. The information about the original film tells us that the method shown is the native way of doing this: white people normally simply shoot to injure the monkey rather than kill it. The "whites" in the film are just that, dressed in their spotless colonial gear, after a good afternoon's fun ; ) The frantic struggles of the trapped monkey are shown without comment, but were presumably there to be laughed at because of its "stupidity"!
